Summer read: The prisoner

khi

This book, by Omar Shahid Hamid, describes a scenario in which Karachi policemen must prevent a tragedy of the Daniel Pearl variety.  The book is notable in describing the endemic corruption that characterizes police operations in Pakistan, and the relationship between the police and two competing Pakistani national intelligence agencies.  The author is a 12-year veteran of the Karachi Police Department.  He is also a good writer, which is rare for this kind of roman à clef.  A very good read and a great ground-up view of how Government works in Pakistan.
